Many people used these funds to speculate in the real estate market, buy cars, take vacations pay for schooling, etc.  And, to be fair, the lenders advertised these loans for just such purposes.  Well, the situation has come to bite the lenders in the ass.  CNBC Reports this week that there is a huge number of people defaulting on these second mortgages, and that the delinquency rate is higher on home equity loans than even on credit cards. ]]></description>
